So today, I tried to make this my "long run" day. The way my workout plan arranges my jogs is to have my "long run" days on Saturdays. So despite the fact that I can't run uninterrupted yet, I was able to get 5 miles in today.
Let me start off saying it took me nearly forever to get in 5 miles. Today, it took an hour and 10 minutes to finish 5 miles. I need to get my speed up for this. I would like to average 10 minute miles, so I would have to shave off 20 minutes off of this time. The good news is that I have 15 more weeks of progress.
The way I arranged my workout today was to increase my "jogging" intervals to 5 minutes. It felt so good to do this. The down side is that I had longer walking intervals at 4.0. I need to learn to trust that my body will get me through the jogs and stop taking such long walking breaks. By the end of this month I want to be up to 5 miles of straight jogging. After this point, I will begin to look for some jogging buddies I think.... even if I don't, I will definitely begin jogging outdoors. While I love being able to jog in a gym that allows you to watch movies, I would prefer to be outside being nosy and working on my tan.
I like to write on my eternal battle with being a better example of healthy living and I like to invite others to come along to keep me company.

... a better day
So today is not a scheduled workout day, however I got myself on the treadmill after lifting some weights. I did okay. I only spent 30 minutes on the treadmill, but I was able to increase my jogging intervals. I did 2 minutes at 5.0 with 1 minute breaks at 4.0. I felt good which makes me excited to do a walk/jog tomorrow outside.
Since today was not a planned training day, I am keeping this short today.

My first real week....begins
So I have been doing really well at getting my workouts to fit in my schedule. I try to lift weights combined with light cardio about 2-3 times a week. Then on the other days I have been doing anywhere from 60-120 minutes of cardio..... well today that was a mistake.
Today I thought that is sounded fun to be able to get an interval fitness class in to get myself ready for my workout on the treadmill. This interval class was "the devil." She had me jumping, punching, squatting, kicking, stepping... you name it, we did it.... and with weights to add. ... I did mention that I lifted yesterday for an hour right?....
Needless to say I somehow got through that featured 60 minute torture session... and moved on to the treadmill. Since I felt rather exhausted, I was a bit weary about how my treadmill session would be today. Then, I walked into the area that I was working out.... and Twilight was playing (I love Twilight). I said to myself that I would just get on the treadmill and walk for bit... then "get it in" tomorrow.
My brief walk at a speed of 4.0 turned out to last an 35 minutes. Then after 35 minutes and 2 miles, I decided to try to get some jogging intervals going. I walked for a minute at 4.0, then jogged for a minute at 5.0. This went pretty well, and before I knew it I was at 3 miles.
Knowing that I had already completed a class previous to this workout, I told myself that I was not going to push to hard,... So I turned the pace back down to 4.0. With 10 minutes left, I decided to round out my second hour of working with some more jogging intervals. Once again I alternated minutes with 5.0 jogs and 4.0 walks. My last two minutes before my cool down I jogged at 5.0. The machine slowed to 4.0 for 5 minutes for my cool down and I finished with 4.39 miles for today!!!!!.... Not too shabby, but I need to get better.
I definitely can't wait til my next jogging workout... I can only do better.

First Workout.... Check
So I got through this workout.... I guess. Running a 12:30min mile mean that you are about at a speed of 4.8 on the treadmill. This also means that this chick right here has "no breath" meaning it was a struggle to get through this workout. I did manage to get 30 minutes in on the treadmill, but since I felt that I sucked so bad I ventured over to the EFX machine for another 60 minutes.
My next planned workout is to happen on Saturday, but I may do it earlier..... I guess that I am glad that I started a week earlier than the plan suggests.
For those that don't run, you have to know that running involves a lot, I mean A LOT of mental strength and stamina.... so I need to definitely need to push myself with positive thoughts of completion. I can't wait to do it all over again in a few days.
In the mean time I am going to be surfing the net trying to find any tips on eating or the preservation of some sort of stylish hairdo to get me through the next four months.

AND SO IT BEGINS....
So today I realized that I have 17 weeks until my very first half marathon and with this realization I came to the conclusion that this epic event needed to be documented. (and) By documented I mean that I would like to share any thoughts, articles, inspirations, training tips, etc that occurs during this process.....
I am rather excited about beginning this training process, and even more excited that I have something to mark a successful completion of this process. In life there are so many things that a person trains for that never seems to have a mark of completion that is seemingly as satisfying, you know. Like for example, a person goes to school his/her whole life. You graduate from primary, middle, and high school. Then you go on to graduate from college multiple times. You finally get a job and you have endless time to gain additional knowledge, ever progressing to new heights... but hoping to have that "dream job" that marks that some successful completion or fulfillment of all that education. (just a thought).
So the training program that I am choosing to follow is one obtained from "More Magazine: Mind, Body and Spirit Fitness." It is a 16 week long training plan and I have 17 weeks to train. Needless to say I am likely to repeat the first week to accommodate for my motivation in beginning a bit early. The goal for today is to run 1-1.5 miles at a 60% effort or about a 12:30 minute mile pace. I believe that is about a pace of 5.0 or slower. If it is too much slower than 5.0 I will likely travel at a faster pace until I get to the point in the training plan where I have to push myself.
I will let all know how things go tonight in my post tomorrow. (if I am too excited I am likely to post something tonight when I get back).
On a side note... hair... I am going to have to figure a way to style my hair during all this training as I plan to get my sweat on.... Suggestions are welcome.
